Steve’s 2/24/22 Interview With Ramones / Lou Reed / Joan Jett Album Cover Designers…

In Episode 7 of Indie Cafe 2wo, award-winning album designers Spencer Drate and Judith Salavetz, and producer/recording artist Patrick Bamburak welcome the prolific recording artist and guitarist Steve Conte. Conte’s highly-anticipated new album “Bronx Cheer” has just been released to wide acclaim. In this interview, Conte takes us through an album by album tour tracing his long career in music as a solo artist, go-to guitarist, and band leader – including notable stops with The New York Dolls and The Michael Monroe Band along the way.

Alice Cooper – “School’s Out” w/ Steve Conte & Michael Monroe

Steve & Michael join Alice & the band for the final encore @ Oasis in Swindon, UK in 2016.

Steve speaks: “One of the greatest musical days of my life; after soundcheck I spent the afternoon hanging out with my songwriting hero, Andy Partridge (XTC) & his engineer Stu Rowe, then came back to the arena and played a big rock show with Michael Monroe & the boys opening for Alice Cooper and finally, got called up onstage by Alice & his band to join them on one of the most ubiquitous rock songs of my childhood!! Pinch me…”

Sylvain Sylvain Birthday Tribute – Steve Sings Ronettes / New York Dolls Mash-Up

In memory of Sylvain Sylvain, the heart & soul of the New York Dolls, Steve performs a medley of 2 songs that belong together for good reason – The Ronettes’ “Walking In The Rain” & the New York Dolls’ “Take A Good Look At My Good Looks” – Steve recalls the story:

“The Dolls used to jam on ‘Walking In The Rain’ at soundcheck on tour and when we ended it, Syl would keep playing this particular chord sequence, inspired by the Ronettes song. I remember telling him it was such a good feel that we should make a song out of it. When it came time to make our album “One Day It Will Please Us To Remember Even This’ the band jammed on the song idea and Johansen made up some words for it, verses and chorus, but it needed a bridge. I came up with the middle part (influenced by Al Green’s ‘Let’s Stay Together’) and – voila – the song was born.” Happy heavenly birthday Sylvain – on this Valentine’s Day and every one hereafter.
