“The Melodies are constant and at every turn and the pop songs wear many outfits from bluesy rockers or more punky-edged songs”- RPM Online “Steve Conte and The Concrete Jangle: The Sound of New York City Rock. These songs have attitude and grit, but find a way to sparkle and soar like skyscrapers.” – Copper Magazine

“These are really high quality pop songs that are built around super strong melodies. We shouldn’t be surprised that this is a great album as Steve Conte is such a talented artist. Steve’s Story in the LA Weekly, “The Best Gig I Ever Saw”

A few years back I did this interview and was very pleased to see it in print…

“I never got a feeling like I did when Chuck Berry played the Meadowlands Racetrack in 1988. I was on the stage playing with him – but I was just as much of a spectator. It was an out of body experience.”

Steve w/ Jazz Guitar Legends Kenny Burrell & Ted Dunbar!

Back in Steve’s early days – the 1980s – he studied with Wes Montgomery protege Ted Dunbar (another Indianapolis thumb player) at Rutgers / Livingston College, and while under his tutelage, got to jam on jazz standards & blues with the great Kenny Burrell.

Says Steve: “I’ll never forget Kenny’s encouraging words to me about my blues playing. I didn’t have the jazz vocabulary together yet, but he could hear that I was feeling every note I played and praised me in front of a class. He didn’t have to. That was invaluable to me as a young guitarist wanting to make a career for myself. It gave me the confidence to keep pushing ahead. Thank you Kenny!”

Check out Kenny’s duo album with John Coltrane and hear what an amazing player he is!!

(I read Pamela’s fantastic book “I’m With The Band” back when we were recording the 1st Company Of Wolves album and loved it – so I am super excited about speaking to the lady herself. Not to mention that I dug what she did with her band The GTOS – a Frank Zappa production!)

“We Like It” Video Wins 1st Place In Golden Door International Fim Festival For Best Music Video!

My “We Like It” video, which won this prestigious Best Music Video award at The Golden Door International Film Festival was the work of many:

Director Peter Perenyi & son Orion Perenyi who filmed all of my performance bits at their studio, NATBORN (Westchester, NY), motion graphics & final edit by David Provan at 12 Inch Media (UK), songwriting by myself & Andy Partridge, music production by myself with additional remote production by Andrew Hollander & Andy Partridge, mixing by Geoff Sanoff at Renegade Studios (NYC) and of course, the musicians; Prairie Prince/drums, John Conte/bass, Rob Schwimmer/keyboards & a host of backing vocalists (to be named later.)

Many thanks to Christian Keiber, Bill & Michele Sorvino and everyone who works so hard at the Golden Door Film Festival. This is truly an honor!!

More thanks goes to my songwriting hero from XTC, the great Andy Partridge who brought me this little nugget of a song idea and allowed me to finish it off – with his genius input every step of the way.
